Crooked Spire Wonder in Chesterfield

The Crooked Spire in chesterfield

Chesterfield’s crooked Spire may well have been kicked by the devil, or may have been locked into shape while bending down to look at a particularly beautiful bride. There is folklore about Devils and virgins but Chesterfield folk aren't really into that sort of thing. I think the most likely explanation is the combination of the heavy lead cladding, unseasoned timbers inside and joiners who were probably most certainly over-seasoned in the many hostelries which surround the church! Whatever the explanation, the Crooked Spire is only one attraction in this picturesque town, which boasts one of the largest and oldest open air markets in the country. Nearby this attractive church one can stay in very comfortable hotels in chesterfield. They provide great discounts with world class services.
